Rental policy and terms

Please read these terms before booking. They cover how our rentals work, what we ask of you, and what happens if something goes sideways. We’ve tried to keep them plain and fair.

Hickory Moving Totes (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is a service of Gray Wall Enterprises, LLC, a North Carolina limited liability company. We rent reusable moving totes and related equipment. By placing an order on hickorymovingtotes.com, by phone, or by text, you (“the renter”) agree to the terms below.

1. Service area

We deliver and pick up throughout Catawba, Burke, Caldwell, and Alexander counties in North Carolina, including Hickory, Newton, Conover, Claremont, Maiden, Long View, Granite Falls, Hudson, Sawmills, Lenoir, Morganton, Valdese, Taylorsville, and Bethlehem. Addresses outside this area may be served at our discretion and may carry an additional delivery charge, which we will tell you about before your order is confirmed. See our service areas page for the current list.

2. Rental period

Standard rentals run fourteen (14) days, beginning on the date your totes are delivered. Rental fees are due in full at checkout before delivery. If you need the totes longer, contact us before your scheduled pickup date and we will extend your rental by the week: $40.00 per week for the Studio/1 Bedroom and 2 Bedroom packages, or $60.00 per week for the 3 Bedroom and 4+ Bedroom packages. Equipment kept past the agreed return date without an approved extension may incur a late fee of $25.00 per day until it is returned or made available for pickup.

3. Delivery, pickup, and access to your property

You choose a preferred delivery date at checkout, and we will confirm it with you. By booking, you authorize us to come onto the delivery and pickup addresses you provide in order to drop off and collect equipment at the scheduled times. You are responsible for providing safe, clear, and lawful access, including reasonable parking and an unobstructed path to the drop-off point. If we cannot safely reach the property, or if no one is available to receive or release the equipment when someone is required to be present, we may need to reschedule and may charge a return trip fee of $25.00.

4. Rescheduling and cancellations

Moving dates shift. We understand. Please give us at least 24 hours’ notice to change a scheduled delivery or pickup, and we will do our best to accommodate you at no charge. Changes made with less than 24 hours’ notice may incur a rescheduling fee of $25.00. Orders cancelled before delivery are refunded in full. Once totes have been delivered, the rental fee is non-refundable, though we are happy to pick up early if you finish ahead of schedule.

5. The equipment stays ours

All totes, dollies, and other equipment remain our property throughout the rental. You may not sell, sublet, lend, pawn, or transfer the equipment to anyone else, and you may not take it outside our service area without our written permission.

6. Your responsibility for the equipment

From the moment we deliver until the moment we collect, the equipment is in your care and control. You are responsible for loss, theft, or damage beyond normal wear and tear. If a tote is lost, stolen, or damaged past reasonable use, you agree to pay a replacement cost of $30.00 per tote, charged to the payment method on your order. Replacement costs are subject to change, but the rate in effect when you placed your order is the rate that applies to it.

7. Labels and markings

Please use only removable labels or painter’s tape to mark your totes. Do not write directly on a tote, and do not use permanent stickers, duct tape, packing tape, or anything else that leaves residue or requires scraping, heat, or solvents to remove. Totes returned with permanent markings or stubborn adhesive may incur a cleaning fee of $5.00 per tote, or the $30.00 replacement charge if the damage cannot be undone.

8. How the totes may be used

Our totes are made for ordinary household and office moving and storage. Please do not use them for:

  • Hazardous, flammable, toxic, or illegal materials
  • Loose liquids, wet garbage, or anything that leaks
  • Construction debris, yard waste, or sharp scrap
  • Loads heavier than the tote is built to carry
  • Uncovered outdoor storage or anything else likely to cause damage

9. Condition at pickup

Please have totes emptied, lids closed, and stacked in an accessible spot at your pickup address. Totes should come back reasonably clean. A cleaning fee may apply to equipment returned with trash, food, spills, pet hair, strong odors, or anything else that keeps us from renting it to the next family right away.

10. Condition at delivery

We sanitize and inspect every tote between rentals and deliver equipment in usable condition. If anything arrives damaged or unusable, tell us right away and we will replace it. Our responsibility is limited to repairing or replacing the equipment.

11. Payment authorization

When you place an order, you authorize us to keep your payment method on file through the rental period and for up to 30 days after your scheduled pickup date, and to charge it for rental fees, approved extensions, and any late, cleaning, return trip, or replacement charges described in these terms. Card details are held securely by our payment processor and are not stored on our website. We will always tell you before charging anything beyond your original order.

12. Fees and pricing changes

Rental rates, extension rates, and fees may change over time. The prices shown when you place your order are the prices that apply to that order. Applicable North Carolina sales tax is added at checkout.

13. Your belongings and your safety

We rent containers. We do not pack, load, carry, or transport your belongings, and we are not responsible for damage to or loss of anything you put in the totes or move with them. Moving involves lifting and carrying heavy things, and that carries real risk of injury. Please pack sensibly, lift carefully, and ask for help with heavy loads. You assume the risks that come with using the equipment, except where harm results from our own gross negligence or willful misconduct.

14. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by North Carolina law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your rental. Our total liability for any claim will not exceed the amount you paid for the rental order that gave rise to it. You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims, damages, and reasonable costs arising out of your possession, use, or misuse of the equipment.

15. Refusing or ending a rental

We may decline, cancel, or end a rental if we reasonably suspect misuse, non-payment, unsafe delivery conditions, or a violation of these terms. If we do, we will refund prepaid fees on a prorated basis, less any charges already incurred.

16. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Catawba County, North Carolina. Gray Wall Enterprises, LLC does business as Hickory Moving Totes.

17. Agreeing to these terms

By placing an order with Hickory Moving Totes, you confirm that you have read and agree to this rental policy, that you are at least 18 years old, and that you are able to enter into this agreement.
